New lad curious to operations.

Post by Tidalshock »

Hey all. I am applying to RMC once I recieve my passport and then hopefully the rest of the process will go well.

What I'm curious about is do the RMC do operations you won't ever hear about, or at least for several years not knowing where they have been. I know we have guys deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, N.Ireland(I think that they're still there) and the Falklands.
My other question is, are they still under threat of attacks in Northern Ireland or the Falklands?

Cheers. :)

There are no more Marines in Northern Ireland, Op BANNER is now finished so no one is serving there anymore. I don't think there are any Marines in the Falklands either but I'm not 100% sure.
We serve where we are required, we are not SF and are not involved under the radar. If we are deployed, chances are, the media know about it.

Thanks for the reply. It gives me a better idea of where I'd be. I was also under the impression that RMC were special forces, but thanks for clearing that up too.

I was involved in two operations that the media didnt know about and I tell you now as I feel its about time to declare what does go on within the forces and how man are treated.

I was involved in Operation wisdom teeth removal and Operation Tonsils Out.

I was unconcious for most of it but there was blood and some pain.

Since my Med Docs were "lost" the MOD deny all knowledge, draw your own conclusions :o

Fairly certain there's a garrison. Naval Party 8901 surely?

Not anymore there ain't. NP8901 were the poor buggers who were in situ April 1982 when the Argies invaded.

Must admit I was under the impression there's still a troop out there. Could be wrong (doesn't happen often though  ).

No, working with Brigade is not sneaky beaky.

I think we still maintain a presence there ( Link )

Not sure if RM is included in that, or how accurate/old it is, but I very much doubt they are under much threat of attack if anyone is out there.

Ha, got it. There's a WO2 Royal Marine detached to the Falkland Islands Defence Force in an advisory role. QED. :D
