Aren't in Afghanistan?!
I have an inability to suffer idots, so I'd normally post something that embodies the rage I would normally be feeling at reading a post like that. Unfortunately though, I'm so astounded at how ridculously wrong and uninformed you are Spiderbloke, that I can't even get angry.

Amazing.

Here's a brief rundown:
2001 - 40 Cdo are 1st British force into Afghanistan.
2002 - 45 Cdo deploy to Afghanistan.
Oct 2006 - 3 Cdo Bde relieve 16 AA Bde as main british presence in Afghanistan.

So yee see my uneducated fool, er, i mean friend, Royal were there at the start and in one form or another have been there ever since.

I hope the fact that you are both posting and reading this particular forum doesn't mean you are thinking of joining up. Only if you are, you may want to brush up on your current affairs somewhat. Just a thought.

Bloody Hell.

539 in Iraq

40 and 42 commando were also heavilly involved in the initial invasion of Iraq.

So during the 4 year period of the Iraq war they were there for the initial invasion, and still have a presence there, as well as keeping other commitments (like the easily confusable Afghanistan).

Not that I actually agree with the original comment, but your answers seem just as bad and very ill informed.

No it isnt an easy mistake to make at all, they are totally different countries, and for someone who is on a military forum making comments about troops involvements in various conflicts to have no idea of the two being different is quite shocking.

Even if you had made that incredible mistake, are you now saying that Royal were not involved/are not currently involved in the campaigne in Iraq?

They were the first conventional troops to enter the conflict at the start of Op Telic 1, took Umm Qsar (an extremely important Port area) amoungst many other things along the way to Basra, and have been back many times since.

If your going to make comments about topics at least have some knowledge of what it is you are talking about.

Chas - Unfortunately, I have no idea what your last post meant but I should mention that my signature was created after passing my first AIB in June '06. At the time I was applying from Germany as my dad's in the army.
I had no access to a Navy Careers Advisor over here, and despite being (and always had been) a UK civillian I was treated like some kind of foreign nutter that was trying to wangle asylum in UK.
Having spoke to several people eventually I got to speak to Mrs Bevell who was very helpfull and pleasant to speak to (unlike the other people from the AIB, who strangely enough weren't able to process the idea of anyone living abroad for several years but were still classed as British citizens)
To cut a much longer story short, I felt that without an AFCO I would have been at a severe disadvantage in terms of briefings and any questions I had but time after time, Mrs Bevell helped me out. This included arranging for me to stay at Lympstone in between POC and AIB, and having my AIB results posted to me as I didn't have an AFCO to debrief me.

It's about time I changed my sig since I don't want to confuse any more of Mrs Bevell's 'relatives', and I've now passed one AIB, failed one AIB and am now going for recruit entry because I can't wait another year!

Hope this 'essay' cleared things up for you :D

Cheers,
Ben

Fu-Bar,

It was a bite For goodness sake don't worry.
What you wrote was typical of what any aspirant 'Bootie'
would have written about a lady who had helped them.
It was well said -so keep it there. My choice of words
were chosen in deliberation to give you an idea that it
might be a wind-up. Since we have never corresponded
you are unaware of my perverse sense of humour. And
you can't be blamed for that.
You have my sincere best wishes in joining the Corps.
Make it clear that you are interested in obtaining your
commission once you are established if that is still the
path you wish to pursue.(PM me if you wish to)

Yours aye,

Chas.

Good news! I can get out from underneath my computer desk now and take this stupid colander off my head!

I have to admit there was a slight worry that you may be related to her in a 'till death do us part' sort of way!

Now that we're clear I'll add it back to my sig, as she really officially is the nicest person in the world! (in a completely platonic way)
