Press ups...sorry
Press ups...sorry
Yeah yeah I know, another press up query. But I'm fairly certain this hasn't been covered before.
I am curious as to how everyone else is doing with press ups and the time limit (2 mins). Do most of you run out of time when banging out your press ups or do you reach your failure point (where you physically cannot do anymore) before the 2 mins is up?
Reason I ask is that I hadn't actually been timing my press ups until last night. My failure point is currently between 50-60 (depending on what else I've done before it) but I discovered last night that I reach this in just over a minute.
I know that as soon as you stop and put your knees down your score will be counted at that point and I have heard people on here say that you can lock your arms out for no more than a couple of seconds in order to maybe squeeze out a couple more.
What are other peoples experiences with this? Do most of you run out of time or do you reach your limit before the 2 mins is up?

Aways look on the bright side of life.

Really mate you won't have to worry about this. You'll be hanging out of your arse after the bleep test so your usual best will be much much harder to reach and therefore you will be going at a much slower pace)ali_hire wrote:Yeah yeah I know, another press up query. Starting off fresh I can push out a certain amount but straight after a difficult exercise like the bleep test I was unable to reach my usual. On the POC I was one of the last people doing pressups at all as everyone else had given up or failed. I had gone well beyond the 60 required by the first 70 seconds and was told to keep going even though they were as slow as hell.
Purhaps you need to slow down a wee bit, work a little more aerobically and spread those 60 pressups across the 2 minutes.
I usually hit failure long before 2 minutes. Currently between 40-60..
Future marine, has that change come since u started RT or before when you where training for PRMC?
I've found that some free-weight exercises & lateral pulldowns at the gym have been helping with my pullups, so going to try something similar for my pressups. I'll let you know how it goes but i'm thinking along the lines of benchpress and tricep dips mainly.

MrC:
If you have access to a dips machine with 2 handles either side (http://www.netfit.co.uk/assets_small/trice_dips.jpg) use it for pullups.
Keep your body straight, the idea is for your heels to be in constant contact with the floor (means you only use about 80 of your own body weight). This is an easier way of performing pullups until you are ready to do it the proper way.

Yea I do tricep dips a fair bit, i'm fine with my pullups now, pressups are mainly what i'm trying to improve..
Like you said, after the other events on POC/PRMC you're too tired to perform maximums anyway, but i'd like to improve my maximums so that I can attain a 'good' score when the time comes.
I can pull off around 20 Pullups with good form from using the USMC guide that was posted on here not long back

Weight?
Just wondering what everyones weight is roughly in KG's if you're in pre-training for basic or in basic now. Strange question but can kind of give a gauge as to how many press-ups, pul-ups etc etc are good as weight is a major factor in it. At present im 13 stone, can do 12 propper form pull-ups, 50 or so press-ups and 80 sit-ups....... this depends on what ive been doin before obviously. Oh and im 5'10''.

Darren,
Im 5'11 and about 13st aswell but not in training....
If i remember correctly i could do more pull ups, press ups, but the sit ups sound good max out obviously.
Maybe try reaching 15 pull up, get there by doing 10-9-8 all the way to 1 each day (never do just the 1 at the end though 'booties never do 1 fella'
)
I just normally do 10 to 1 on the press ups but this is after a work out or something and could max out on a BFT, so maybe try that aswell
