Shortly after McNabs book came out, I attended an SBS Re-Union.
At the general meeting, we were warned NOT to write any books without first getting the draft approved by the SBS HQ.!!
That surely tells us something!
Either we can't write a legible sentence - or we might say something that might just show SF in a different light to what is meant to be shown!
I personally think, that as SF, we don't have too much to worry about.
I think we act in a very honourable way.

I was going to put this in a whole new thread, but think it would be better suited right here. Mr. McNab recently talked through men's magazine, Nuts, about 'the british army's brand new super troop', as the magazine called it.

Apparently, the new unit will be called the 'Special Forces Support Group' and will be comprised of members from the Paras, Marines and RAF. Anything in speech-marks here through will be direct quoting from the mag, which I have sitting on my lap right now.

"For the past 15 years there's been a need for a specialised force to come in and work with the SAS. At most, the SAS numbers at three or four hundered people and that's never enough for a big mission. "

"The SAS is being used these days more than ever before and the regiment needs troops they can rely on. For instance, with the new force, we could avoid the classic f**ck-up like the Black Hawk Down incident the Americans caused at Mogadishu, because as Delta Force got ready to do that 'life' they didn't have another set of people acting as a cordon around the action zone, stopping absolutely anybody getting either in or out. Ideally, the area is contained, the SAS goes in, the job gets done and everyone gets out."

"The nature of warfare is changing. We arguably don't need a big land army in the way that we thought we might to face the Russians 20 years ago. The way to anwser this new world is to make our soldiers more mobile and more reactive. For example, lift some guys, drop them where they need to be dropped, leave them and then pick them up afterwards and take them away."

This made me chuckle. McNab commenting on the new unit's badge.

This is incorrect.
There were four Ranger 'Chalks' tasked with providing the perimeter.
The Navy Seals were also involved. What went wrong had nothing to do with the perimeter, and more to do with the pick up convoy getting lost in the winding streets of Mogadishu. The 'Little Birds' they had as part of their air support were able to give directions, unfortunatley, the messages were relayed with a delay, and by the time the convoy got the message 'turn left', they were already out of position relative to where the message was referring to, and getting further out of position when they followed the direction.
The other 'f*ck up' was that the Americans never thought that the Somalis would be capable of targetting a Heli effectively with an RPG.

If you're trying to correct someone, better write to the Nuts editor or better yet Mr McNab. As I said in the post, none of that's my opinion, it was an article written on McNab on a supposed 'new task force' that I quoted for everyone on here to read.

I am sure it has been said hundreds of times before but one must remember the man passed SF Selection and became a Sgt with 22SAS, so the poll option “a complete fake” is a bit silly. The man seems to be a prat and having read Peter Ratcliffs book I can see that even his own contemporaries thought this of him .
I have often thought that the fiction books that Mcnab and Chris Ryan have out at the minute are wrote by the same ghost writer.
