Hi all,

Just a quick question, what references will I need to join the RAF? I can provide personal and educational references, but I don't want to use my employer because they don't know I'm planning on joining. Will this be okay?

The types of people you can use are Professionals :ie. Doctor, Accountant Solicitor, Teacher and Police Officer who have known you for a period of time normally a minimum of 3 years and they should not be relatives.
If you don't know any of the above they can accept a colleage or personal friend in exceptional circumstances but are reluctant to do so!
Hope this helps!

Thanks for that. How many do I need?

Could prove a problem for me really as I've been out of education for five years, and don't know anybody from those occupations. :(

You need to provide 2 referees on your application form. In addition, you will list your schools/colleges/University and employers....and the RAF can also use these for reference purposes.

If you are applying for RAFP or an Intelligence job, they will want a lot more from you for vetting purposes.

They will not contact your current employer until they are in a position where they can offer you a place in the RAF. Your position with your employer is not uncommon and the RAF take that into account.
