I have been enquiring about Hiram for sometime on behalf of an ex-Royal in NZ. I have heard reports of him passing on.
Can anyone please confirm?

Brian, hi there,
as you can see on "kit maintenance", both Owdun and JR were in at the same time as Hiram. It seems he has passed on.
Bottom page one, refers

Just been surfing round and came across this website
http://www.royalmarines.org/index.html
...I think it belongs to exvmremf of these forums.
Anyroads, its got a message from Hiram Potts daughter on there saying that he is still very much alive, and celebrated his 80th birthday last month.

I can't see any contact details, but perhaps the webmaster will be able to help.

All the best

Was Hiram Potts called "Ted"? If so I served with him in 40 Cdo. in Malta, in 1960. The man was a complete nutter! (Said in the nicest possible way). To say he was eccentric would be to debase the English language!!
If it is the same person - he was also the CO at RM Poole at about 1968.
Does this help? I hope he is still alive. He was a Corps character!

I believe it is the same person sneaky. He was quite upset with us MMG troop guys for hunting gazelle in North Africa with MMG's mounted on the champs.

If we are talking eccentricity (nutcases) Peter Pennel would take a beating.

Aye - Andy.

Ted Potts and Hiram Potts were two very different officers of the R.M.sTed was my first Tp Cdr -B Tp,40 CDO-58',60.Once met ,NEVER forgotten. He died at his home near Newton Poppleford some years ago.Hiram,in contrast to Ted,and if my memory serves me correctly, was a gentleman of the first orderThey differed in every human respect.
