1.5 mile run
1.5 mile run
I was wondering how offten you should do the 1.5 mile run and what other things may be usefull? thank you[/quote]
I guess it would depend on what stage of the recruitment process your at. I mean like if you aint joining untill next year or late this year, you got plenty of time and may only have to practice it once or twice every fortnight. But if you got something like RSC coming up, you might want to run it maybe 2 times a week to get yur body used to it ready for the 1.5mile test.
I usually just use the 1.5 mile as a test of my fitness at the end of the week or end of the fortnight, seeing if my times have improved, however the couple weeks before I did RSC I trained alot on 1.5miles. Dont care what anyone else says, but for me, training mainly on just 1.5 mile runs before I was due to do RSC (instead of different length and strength runs), helped me ALOT and got my time well below 9minutes,
Basically, do it once or twice a fortnight or more often if you have an army accessment coming up such as RSC,

Running once or twice a fortnight is pointless if its your only means of exercise
After a break in exercise of only 3 days muscle loss kicks in and I'm afraid I've forgotten the technical term for that, ( goldie ex rmp may be able to help )
Anyway , get yourself a decent training programme , try a search on this website or perhaps get over the runnersworld website
Incidently how long have you been training , what do you weigh and what do you need to get fit for ?

I wasnt on about ONLY running once or twice a fortnight!!! I was on about the 1.5 mile run wernt I!!!
All the stuff I said still stands, but yeah OBVIOUSLY you do other training sessions inbetween yur 1.5mile runs. Try the following training plan...

You'll see that during your second and third week you will be practicing the 1.5 mile runs. Im off in the paras in june, so guess that aint that long. Basically im running mon, wed, fri and swimming tue, thur. On saturdays I test myself by the 1.5mile run, and my time keeps going down each time I do it. Sundays a rest day. You should always have at least one rest day per week to allow yur muscles time to recover.
I done the 4week prgoramme about 5 times now, and half way through it again now. in two weeks ill then go onto a 8 week pre-pcompany programme. Basically cos by the end of it, ill only have a week left before my training. But as for you, you probably have plenty of time to train so dont go too hard on yurself. Running 3 or 4 times a week, one of those days perhaps been a 1.5mile jog followed by a 1.5mile best effort should set u in good stead.

Point to note: The times are only for passing RSC and getting to the ATR stage, no matter what mob you join the pass time for infantry or Corps soldier is 10:30 or under, if you are under 29 years of age, once you join thr Field Army i.e. a working unit.
Additionally, if you arrive at the ATRs with a time of 11:00 they will expect you to knock at least 1:30 off that time by the end of your training, have fun
