Saddam's wife 'wants asylum'
by DAVID WILLIAMS and MATTHEW BAYLEY, Daily Mail
5th June 2003
Saddam Hussein's former wife is to seek asylum in Britain,
Sajida Hussein - the mother of the dictator's sons Uday and Qusay - wants to join her daughters Raghad and Rana in applying to settle in this country.
And they are even thought to have said where they want to live.
Mother and daughters want to move to Leeds, where they will sign up for benefits and send their ten children to local schools.
Saddam's cousin Izzi-Din Mohammed Hassan al-Majid, who lives in the city, said: "Saddam's daughters had British schools and hospitals in mind when they decided to ask for asylum - especially the schools.
"All the children have been away from school for a year and they need to catch up on their education. Both would like to live next to each other in Leeds, near me."
He told the Sun: "As far as money goes, they are in a really bad way. They would definitely need financial help. I believe the UK Government will take them in because they have always been known to protect people and give asylum."
In an astonishing development, the women also want the British Army to guarantee their safe passage from their hideout in Iraq.
They have already been offered asylum in Egypt, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi - but insist Britain is the only place beyond the reach of Saddam's enemies.
"They believe that if they stay in the Middle East they will still be 'in range' of people seeking revenge for Saddam's tyranny," said a source close to the family.
Last night the brazen requests were being greeted with disbelief.
"This is an extraordinary development," said Shadow Home Secretary Oliver Letwin.
"All right-minded people in Britain will be horrified. I sincerely hope that the Home Office will not entertain the idea seriously."
On Monday it was revealed that Raghad, 35, and Rana, 33, Saddam's eldest daughters, were planning to seek asylum in Britain - and were due to launch an application within a week.
Now 66-year-old Sajida, the mother of five of Saddam's children, is also keen to make her home here.
She is in hiding with her daughters in northern Iraq after being thrown out of Syria at the end of the war. They had been there for five weeks after fleeing over the border at the start of the conflict.
The family arrived in Syria with several lorryloads of possessions and 60 bodyguards, but were forced to return to Iraq after the Allies put pressure on Damascus.
Earlier this week the Mail revealed that lawyers who will seek political asylum in Britain for the two daughters will claim that this country "owes them a debt".
Their husbands provided Western intelligence with details of Saddam'sweapons programme. Raghad was married to General Hussein Kamel Hassan, while Rana's husband was General Saddam Kamel.
Both men were killed in a shootout with forces led by Saddam's son Uday in 1995.

They havn't a chance in hell of getting into the UK even with the millions of US dollars that they have secretly stashed away for such a move.Mind you stranger things have happened in the past, like giving Mugabe a Billion pounds of tax payers money to keep him in office in Zimbabwe.

Tony Blair's official spokesman has said.
"We will not consider asylum claims from his (Saddam's) daughters, wife or any other members of his family who might have been involved in human rights abuses."
Of course Tone wouldn't lie, would he?
Secretly stashed millions?
Not according to uncle al-Majid.
He said: "As far as money goes they are in a really bad way."
The gals will have to sell their furs and diamonds to pay the slaves, oops servants.

I say we let her and the rest of the Hussein's family in the country. Now this is the good bit, soon as Wembley stadium is completed instead of Brazil for the opening ceremony. I say we have a live audience with the Hussein family plus the firing squad.Saddam Hussein's former wife is to seek asylum in Britain,

500,000 'TO POUR INTO UK'
NEARLY half a million immigrants are set to flood into Britain next year when 10 new nations join the EU.
This is because the UK will let their citizens live and work here right away - while other EU states will wait seven years.
Migration Watch UK fears thousands of work permit holders will also stay on, swelling numbers.
The watchdog's boss Sir Andrew Green said: "The Government is trying to close Britain's back door to 100,000 asylum seekers - while opening the front door."
