Ask the questions, read the books, but a word of warning about career offices. Only go there when the Royal Marine is in for business, As a 15 year old sprog, I wandered in to the recruiting office to ask about the Royal Navy, big ships and sailing around the world. That is what I wanted. The navy rep was out to lunch but a big bastard dressed in a green uniform spoke to me. The rest is history. Years later I sent my son to the careers office to talk to the marines. He met a nice chap dressed in a kilt. My son is now in the Highlanders. The recruiting staff have a quota to fill, if you look like a potential candidate, the first person you talk to will try and persuade you to their unit/regiment/ship/airfield !!

What's the difference
whats the difference
Hi Mutts
I did n,t intend to conflict with your comments to the inquirer,
Its just that I thought I would aswer the question as brief as pos,
with out giving out any hints as to where these units are based.
with the ever changing structure of the corps it is hard some times
to keep up with them all."dont forget I too am one of the old farts"
these young ones dont always get the info they need to know.
and according to The Commandant General RM there are a hell
of a lot more, These young one need the advise we can give them
[ If they are genuine ] ,Funny enough I was talking to a couple of
recuits that I had given advise to in the past I was suprised who
greatful they were, one of the was in the King Squad ready to pass out.
[Dont forget it take a long time to get the sence of humour and attitude
that we have]
As for Commando 21 this is the future of the corps,The aim is to
increase the firepower and mobility of all our units without going into
too much detail it is designed to be up and running by the year 2010
and to proved a comprehencive,Modern, and Highly effective range of capabilities that will take the UK Amphibious Force through to 2020.
If you go to the official web site it will give you some of the info you need
a lot of it is published in the G&L.
Catch you later
aye

Anyhows following up from Terrys
Gad the little b@st@rd has gone again, whats with the little red cross in the white box - IS IT ME!
More succinct but, if that isnt straight out of something I posted a while back, then I dont know what is....... Although the out to lunch bit would be interesting to follow up - Jack and long lunches, I mean -H I said Follow up, not through! The navy rep was out to lunch but a big bastard dressed in a green uniform spoke to me. The rest is........
Anyhows following up from Terrys
tale, I always had my doubts about Tri-service recruiting. But that doesnt answer how the crabs keep it up.Jock in a frock

I always look on it as conditioning - why is it that both my 5 y.o. daughter and my 7 y.o. son have got it, but somehow it alludes the Squadron Leader - then again I must blame myself, obviously havent put her forward for the right courses.
JD, DTS?

Ditto, John_D, Good luck with your application
and medical. Watch-out for that first question in the aptitude test. They will show you a picture of a wood screw, then you have to put a tick next to the correct tool one should use. The choices are: spanner, screwdriver and hammer. Phew! that one had me stumped for a while.
