Howdy
I'm hoping to get into the RAF or Navy this year as either an electrician or as an ICT Tech.
Can anyone provide any input on life in either?
May sound a bit weird but what are the women like there? I only ask because if I went in I'd quite like to have a girlfriend within the forces. Figured it'd be easier than going out with a civvy. Are relationships frowned on etc?
Also, with regards to free time...I'm studying for a degree part time. Would I have much time to study?(at the mo I'm used to free evenings and weekends to get my head down)
Thanks for all the replies

Relationships aren't frowned upon in the RAF, fairly sure it wouldn't be a problem in the Navy either.
I would say that women in the RAF are pretty much the same as women anywhere else...
(I should know, seeing as how I AM one...)

You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

Ha ha ha, I certainly didn't mean that in a derogatory way.
I was just interested on whether anyone had any interesting things they had come across (any stereotypes both positive and negative - like how submariners are generally known for their good sense of humour)
I had an informal meeting at an Afco today and after a lengthy chat I've decided to go in the direction of an Aircraft Engineer Technician for the Royal Navy. Not only will I spend a year in college after basic training but I'll be encouraged to top up the foundation degree to a full BSC and I do enjoy learning.
Got my proper interview on the 14th Jan. Can't wait!
How long does the whole recruitment process take?
And to Timex...Full time uni isn't an option for me. I live on my own and earn enough to drive an FTO but nowhere near 3 year tuition fees
Sorry for so many questions btw....you lot must get fed up by being interrogated by aspiring civvies =P

Not a problem, nice to get questions from someone who can actually type in decent English!
Best of luck with your application, hope you find all the info on here that you need.
