I've read the stories about how the award of the Victoria Cross can not only be a proud moment but also a burden on those who are awarded it.
I came across this story on Cpl Willie Apiata VC of the NZSAS while surfing Youtube. This further backs up the above claims but also supports the many books written about the VC, that those awarded the medal are incredibly humble about themselves and their actions.
