And guess what.............it's exactly the same in every Para Regt recruit platoon. Funny that.Patrick wrote:I know every RM troop is full of guys who think they've got what it takes at the beginging but the troop photo usually tells a different story at the end.

Re: Para's Marines Choices Choices
Euro Andy passed out from CTCRM in January. After the 32 weeks the troop was down to 12 bods, half of them were blokes who had been injured during training and had been placed in Hunter Coy. At the start his troops strengh was 50 odd. Most of his original troop wrapped early on as they had sussed that a life in the Corps was not for them.
I dare say it's the same with the blokes doing the Para course as in both cases the training is not easy to say the least. Quite a few blokes wrap not because of injury but because they just can't get their heads around being messed about at 0300hrs in the morning.
The average Bootneck recruit on passing out from CTCRM is just that, average in height and weight. It's what he's got between his ears that make him different from the vast majority of people. And I found this tendancy to be the same with the average Para on cracking training.
Worked with the Paras quite a few times and apart from the such things as the way Royal and the Toms speak the general mindset is pretty similar. Royal eats his Scran, Tom eats his scoff. Royal Yomps, Tom Tabs.
Whatever unit a person joins just take it as read that your going to be driven hard from day one in order to get the best out of you.

Mega. That wasnt the notorious Athens platoon was it?SandyTheGuvnor wrote:I have seen 1 platoon start with 55 joes and by the end of week 8 there was 9 left.
I was Rhine, and we started with around 55 and finished with 12 originals. Mostly injuries which put people back. It pays not to go on the sick. I nearly got taken out of training because of shin splints 1 week before P-company. Decided to Reg it out.
