I agree Wholley. For me it was the logical choice. I'm going to say something now that might sound a bit harsh but true, so please people don't jump down my throat about it.Wholley wrote:Police, maybe?
but not a bad choice
Here goes:
In my day early 80s the academic qualifications for entering a police force in the UK were a lot higher than the academic qualifications for becoming an infantry soldier or any soldier for that matter that wasn't going to be learning a technical/mechanical/medical trade.
And the academic qualifications of the average soldier back then were extremely low and not sufficient for subsequent employment by a police force.

This topic has rolled over into other threads.
Without making this a love fest it's the same in the US.
Academic standards for a Police officer are much higher than that of a GI.
Physical standards are also a lot higher.
Basic Law Enforcement Training(BLET)is Federally mandated these days and it's no walk in the park.
Still think your pointy hats and vests worn outside your shirt look silly

Were you in Honkers then Chas?
Once knew a lad who wanted to be RM Officer and was told to "come back later" by the AIB "when you have more leadership potential" So off he goes and joins Hong Kong Bill. Four years later, chokey wife in tow, he returns. Passes second AIB (just to satisfy his curiousity ) and declines as they had their chance four years previous. Old Bill ever since and very happy with it

And I'll bet that Doc's "Close Protection" job really turns out to be
in the "Escort Service" area .....
Dream job that - escort service - savour the words - roll 'em around
on your tongue - Escort Service - "30 madam, uncut".....
Prostitution must be better than the police force - shorter beat - better pay
If you really work at it while you're 'in' and stay reasonably fit you could
perhaps qualify for an Escort job - practice makes perfect.

Travelled along Hirams Highway ia a three tonner driven by a chook driver.Them bassards are all fatalists, ergo,if I go over the edge it's because the Gods want it to happen,Not being a fatalist,my reaction was, fcuk this for a game of soldiers, move over yer mad bassa..The road is narrow and winding, with massive cliff falls in places, one way road, certain times to travel either way.
