No they were not.
Did you know that actual research is much better than "wot I got told?"
I`m still staggered by your leaves post
rc, get yerself into a decent outdoors shop, Cotswold Camping or similar, and ask for the Silva Guide. It`s the most easy to understand way of using map and compass.
A B have you ever read "Map Reading Around the Arctic" by Sir Robert Scott? I t explains everything
You’d love it.

What so you mean its not true!!,I've just scoured Hilliers Manual of Trees and Shrubs to find the best type of leaf to keep in my survival tin.My research indicated that a leaf of either Obovate or Oblanceolate structure would be ideal for such a purpose, and decided to seek out a shrub known as Euonymus Obovatus for a source of the afore mentioned Obovate leaf.
And now I find out I have been wasting my time.Time that could have been spent reading Ray Mears' survival handbook and gleaning first hand knowledge on bush map reading (no good in Brazil).
Confused of Yorkshire
Have you ever thought the reason why Mr Mears is 16 stone is because he is so good at survival ?

Unbelieveable.harry hackedoff wrote:Further to my last, there are a group of lefties down here who hate everything to do with their heritage in general and the British aspects of it in particular. They hate the fact that on Australian maps north is up. Why for forksake?
Because it discriminates against people in the southern hemisphereThey produce "upside down" maps of the globe and want them introduced in skools

And while they are at it, they want to know why is Australia a "western democracy" when it is on the same longitude as Singers or Saigon?![]()
I generally tell them to fork off.
