Is It really too late??

New to the forum but was wondering....
I'm 28 now and 29 next month, how realistically would i cope in the marines. I realise i've left it a bit late to decide what i want to do but anyway,
what do you guys think??
i've read through a lot of the posts on here and you all seem to be pretty young... how hard would it be for me at 29??
anyone know anyone that trained with them at a similar age??

29 will be impossible... you have missed the boat on the age thing. You can go to your AFCO and ask them what the timeline would be but I don't think you'll get in before the cut off time.
Go to your careers office and ask them for the gospel as there may have been changes recently.

It says 27 is the cut off age on all the leaflets and stuff I have but I am almost 100% sure that they moved it to 32

Get to your local AFCO ASAP as I am sure they have up to date info

Just checked the RM website and I was right. The top age limit is now 32!! I guess thats all to do with recruitment and the like!

The Champion Recruit award in my platoon went to a guy who was 27, so it proves it can be done even when you are slightly older than the rest. He had served for 4 years in the Royal Marines in his younger days.

Do it fella, dont hang about time is against you.(This one time at band camp), there was a lad in my Troop joined at the age of 29 (he was older than the DS),he did it and also became KB (controversial in my opinion, but thats another dit).I joined at a 25, the real problem is maturity, its very hard to live and put up with a 16 year old scrote at your time of life!

There was a lad in 900 troop who was 32, he was also kngs badgeman....

30 year old in 911 Troop Royal Marines right now. 27 year old in 912 troop RM now (my old troop) both lads well into phase 2 training.

At the other end of the scale

my mate was a diamond and went onto the kings badge board as a 17 year old (had his 17th birthdat while in training)

He later became a 25 year old Cpl, training nods at Lympstone and as you mentioned earlier, a lot of the recruits were the same age or older!

There was a lad in my troop (887) who was 29, I think he left, but he seemed to find it ok.

I am 27 now, will be 28 by the time I can apply. The only thing I fear is that they will change the age in the next year.
I am physically ready, other issues are preventing me from beginning the app process, but I have to say that becoming a Bootneck is all I want out of life, if I can acheive that then I can die a happy man.
My only concern is, what if, upon sorting my issues, I happily bimble down to my afco, forms complete, only to be told to nob off, the age limit has changed again, and by the way, where is your zimmer, you old count?
I should be sorted in roughly 12 months, hopefully sooner.

From the information I've gathered over the past view months trawling through these forums, the Royal Marines are currently undermanned as it is, by upwards of 150 men. So in my opinion making the age limit even more restrained would result in a negative impact on recruiting numbers, something that the RM's could do without at this moment in time.

In short, I think your safe mate.
