WTF is it with the RAF and BADGES?

Post by RAF Reginald »

Read in orders today that everyone in the RAF inc RAF Regt are to be issued 'DZ' type patches or 'Tactical Recognition Flashes' to be worn on the right sleeve of CS95.

What the fu#k is this obsession with spending money on shite! Just to put it into perspective, in my normal working dress, i am now expected to wear RAF insignia in SEVEN places on my uniform! 1) Beret badge 2) RAF Regt mudguard on left shoulder 3) RAF Regt mudguard on right shoulder 4) 'TRF' 5) Royal Air Force badge on chest 6) RAF Regiment Stable belt 7) RAF 'Gaysac' on back!!

At present i'm getting away with just the mudguards, belt and beret, more than enough for someone who is'nt exactly filled with pride after taking a glance round at the modern RAF!

Can anyone provide some insight into the reasoning behind all this money burning?

Surely the TRF will alleviate the need to have the big chad Royal Airforce badge on your chest.

Like to think so wouldn't you. Watch this space!

Unfortunately, it seems as though the general attitude in the RAF is that wearing as many badges as you can, with no real military significance, is a substitute for actual professionalism.

At least the Scouts have to do something to earn badges!! :D

:D :D Ha, we were just saying that yesterday, when we first heard about it, Lambretta gear!!

My personal suggestion was RAF badges moulded on the soes of our boots, so people could 'identify' who left the tracks!!

F**k the Gaysacks off mate, never bother with that turd (depends if your at honnington, which i have to say in the space of a year has gone really OTT bullshit when i was there in Jan).

I'm a Gunner on QCS, we've always had to wear the '63' DZ, and buy it ourselves. Plus the DZ will help the pongo morons realise the Rocks from the GUANOS!

What Sqn you off mate?

Alright mate,

How's Uxbridge? I'm Heli's at RAF Benson. Don't worry about the daysacs, first thing our F/S did was tell the SWO here that we wouldn't be wearing the shitty things, as we all have green/DPM daysacs, and, er, we wear green/DPM. Think we're about the last unit in the Regt to have so far dodged the RAF chest patch! Still just Stable belt and mudguards for this callsign. If we start getting pulled up, then i'll simply sanitise my kit! Which will mean, ironically, that after all the money spent on stinking 'corporate identity' i'll be back to what i was wearing when i first passed out, green belt and a Regt slide!! As for the DZ's distinguishing us from the penguins, no such luck. Everyone's getting them!

With comments like that you really do wonder why the RAF Regt have got an appalling reputation both in the military and with the other RAF elements. At the end of the day you only guard perimeters, and even then not to good at that!!! :D

I have got a sense of humour hence the banter and the smiley face. No you did not upset me. After some 13 years in the military I am more than used to any comment that a young ill informed RAF Regt sprog can make. Perhaps you need a bit of time to get used to military banter.
