By the way, India already has a massive population and I dont see that impacting to much on our economy, apart from some call centres being placed there. Why talk of conflict with the emerging world? Unless the EU wants to take over the whole world, do you know something we dont?
By the way I dont read elveish so I couldn't understand your quote. Erin ro bragh.
If you want to be blunt about it yes, it's a dog eat dog World and sooner rather then later those poorer Countries will have bigger teeth, where exacty do you think the UK get's it's economic clout to negotiate with the big boy's of the World, in the EU trade deal's are hammered out collectivly giving all of us a bigger say then if we were on our own
I'll take your last comment as a compliment instead of the half ass jibe that it was, after all in the LOTR the Elves were the most technologically advanced race and the best warrior's

I think people get a mite too obsessed with
the concept of "clout to negotiate" personally
citing it as reasonwe need to sign upto anything the EU suggests
It doesnt hold out imho.

If the product you are manufacturing and selling is of the very best quality and is competitively priced will be sold regardless of which trading bloc you belong to or not
Can anyone please explain to me one valid reason belonging to a trading bloc, such as the EU, is to the advantage of the UK. Please do not cite security of our borders as an example as NATO/OTAN have been doing this for decades.
Funnily enough Switzerland and Andorra are always doing well. The first is the world's banker of choice, the second a tax-free haven for French, Spanish Germans Brits et al. Andorra is a shopaholics dream state; biking gear at 2/3rds what we pay here.

Because you need your recources from somewhere else. If you do this on your own, every other country can decide what to deliver to you and at what price. Of things you export, every other country can impose restrictions on you, make your products more expensive to consumers etc. If you are part of a large group of countries, that group can negotiate for you simply because it has more recources of its own. American steel is still more expensive in Europe because the EU imposed trade restrictions on it. The combined British/Dutch steel company Corus profits immensely from this because now it can still sell its steel in Europe.
As for Switzerland/Andorra etc. They only survive at the good grace of others and because it's tax system is favorable to banking. The Andorra system would never work in Britain simply because Andorra is a bit smaller than Britain. The only way you can survive on your own is if you have recources like oil, in significant quantities.

I did not mean, stay in the EU or we will have you! That would be nice though! No I meant, if a country does not belong to a certain trading bloc, it cannot pressure other countries to deliver goods at a certain price. You will pay a higher price for products that have to be imported, and products you export will be (or might be) lower priced.

We have oil, and gas, huge reserves. So far we seem to be doing quite nicely. We had generous fishing grounds, but we shared them, result, barren fishing grounds, minimal fleet and every other nation but ours sends it's boats to our harbours.

And do you know what's funny about that, it was your own Gov that negotiated it all, don't bother pointing out the "spincs", mick's, kraut's, frog's, wop's, etc you signed the deal they took advantage of it, why don't you do us the favour and just join NAFTA, you'll be in great company there, with the argie's and Chile joing soon you'll feel right at home

All you have in oil is the same we have, the oil reserves in the North Sea. Which is more expensive to drill up and refine than it is to have it transported from the middle east, plus there's not as much.
As far as fishing is concerned, that is an environment thing and everybody is hampered by this, not just the UK.

Most of our raw materials do not come from Europe, we only seem to but the finished goods from them. Now how was it the French could give a massive subsidy to their dockyards to build the QE 2, yet over here we are not allowed to. How is it that the French have not yet privatised their service industries as instructed by Brussels, but can come over here and buy our ones up, with French governments help. It is that lack of a level playing field that is really getting up a lot peoples noses.
The people of Eire will always follow the EU line, they have become very well off living off the backs of UK and Germany, best thing that ever happened to 'em was being allowed to join the likes of Greece Spain and a miriad other little countries on the EU bandwagon. If we pull out, the whole rotten edifice will collapse, Germany would never carry that load on its own. We are a world trading country, the EU needs us a damn sight more than we need them, and we are well able to uprate our manufacturing industries ,if required.
