Got my application in with the RAF but I'm also considering applying to the Army as well, I was just wondering if anyone knows what positions are available at the moment as an officer i.e. which of the branches in the Army are recruiting Officers currently?

Thanks for the oh-so-helpful comment. I've looked around on the internet and the Army Jobs website and have been unable to find what trades are currently recruiting. I've also called the Army helpline on 08457300111 and they were unable to help me either, they have suggested to call the AFCO which I shall do on Monday when they are open! I asked on here because in the past I have used the forums as a source of information and generally been happy with the response.
However I have noticed that occasionally when a simple question is asked the person is automatically dismissed as being lazy, I'm not lazy quite the opposite in fact, I am eager to find out more as soon as possible hence I'm using this forum.

I've got at least one friend who has a RAF Regt application and a RM application running at the moment, he's waiting for the date of his AIB and is going on the PROC on monday.

Out of interest, why is there a restriction on applying for say the RAF and the Army at the same time?

The computer system gets all messed up, It wont let you run two applicants with the same name and date of birth at the same time.

That's interesting to know because I also ran applications for the Army and RAF at the same time, before ultimately deciding that the Army was for me.

ed_ climber - It is hard work running two applications at the same time because you can't really give them the full attention they require.

I think you will at some point naturally sway more towards one and drop the other application, particularly after familiarisation visits.

You also need to look at what you want to do rather than whats available???

Whilst Im not an officer let me put it this way

I have been in the Army 16 years, two tours of Bosnia, Three of Iraq off to Afgahn next year. As well as NI/Kosovo and lots of other places on exercise

My neighbour
16 years in the RAF and four months in Kuwait to his name and thats it??

What is it exactly that fires your rockets, Do some research and then make a final decision

Oh and just to even the balance the RAF do get treated better than the Army

Both Pilot in the AAC and Troop Commander, Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment are the roles that appeal to me most (I'm applying for pilot and WSO in the RAF at the moment). I know that the RAF are very limited in what they are recruiting for at the moment but I'll give the AFCO a call in the morning and I expect they'll give me a clear picture of what my options are as regards the army.

Maybe! But in my day your average infantry wallah still got an extra few bob in his pocket for every new specialist weapon course he completed.
We didin't, we were expected in our role to know and use them for the same wage! We were, as Vic & Bob would put it ...naive but happy!

Very true about the operational postings though. We only had NI.
We didn't even get the Falklands, six hour stand-by with equipment on board ship at Southampton was as close as we got in the RAF Regt.

(apart from some of the "boffins" on one of the poncy Rapier Sqns who went down to assist the RA batteries ...I never was any good at maths or technical drawing )

Nowadays though my old Sqn seems to be having fun in the sun & the sand
