simulating chin ups

Post by whichmcqueen »

hey, as far as im aware, chin ups are one of the exercises required at ADSC.
i cant find anywhere in my house to do them, and i cant get to a gym; im currently doing chin ups on the stairwell bannister, but its far from perfect.

does anyone know any exercises which i could do to work out the muscles used in a chin up? ive got a barbell and whatnot, but apart from bicep curls, im unsure which other exercises to do for the other muscles [is it my lats?]
any suggestions would be ace.

also, chin ups are my weakest area- does anyone know how many i should be able to do in order to be 'safe' at ADSC?

cheers guys

1. use a bus stop, up here in nottingham their is a gap big enough to do them on.

2. Aim for 10 by ADSC (but it's all just down to effort) so have fun.

p.s. don't do heaves at the bus stop if it's full, you will only end up getting arrested and sectioned for hoisting your nuts up to head height of an 80 year pensioner.............bless her!

Do mine using the swings or climbing frame at my local park. There is no replacing them mate, to get better at heaves, you have to do heaves!

It's true, we do have the best bus stops to do heaves on, the broken glass beneath you is always a boost for you not to let go.

I never said it would be easy, Well your lucky because the area I live in the NCT don't trust us with glass, or any panels, or a roof at one point on our bus shelter. Just tells you I live in the ritz!

Lat pull downs on multi gym type equipment should help condition the back, shoulders and arms.

Also any hanging exercise:

Hang from the pull up bar and do knee or leg raises.

Hang from the pull up bar and do shoulder shrugs or half pull ups.

I do 20 - 30 reps of each and at the end do a couple of full pull ups.

I recently suffered a minor upper arm injury and found these exercises helpful.

Hello...

I bought a chin up bar from argos & it's been great

I try 2 do at least 20 each day now.

Would that be enough to pass Selection which I have in 2 weeks time?
