Joining Age

Hi folks,

I've always wanted to join the Army, however, other things always seemed to have got in the way and I am now nearly 32. I got sick of the job I had since I left school so went to university as a maturish student and recently graduated with a BSc (Hons). I was going to continue studying, but I really want to join the army as I'm going to be too old to join pretty soon,
My problem is that I think I may feel out of place at basic training as I can imagine all the other people there will be from about 18-22.

So, I was wondering if anyone else here joined up at a later stage in their life, and if so, how was their experience?

Cheers!

Hey

I am 24 and joining up

My friend is 32 and has just passed selection. She also she's worried about being the oldest but really Ive been to a pre-adsc selection and theres a big range of age, races, sexes (well just 2 varieties of sex..)

do it before its too late just go for it
also theres loads of links on here about people asking about joining ages, lots of other ppl in late 20s / 30s asking the same as you
:)

I was 26 when I joined the RAF, and there was a guy who was 31 (although he was a bit of a ******) - don't worry about it, just go for it!
You'll probably find that your age helps, as you have more life experience etc.

Thanks for your replies, I feel a bit more at ease about joining up now as it seems that I wont be that much of an out-lier!

Ye, you're right about the 3 choices, however, that was the only job i really wanted to do, so i left the other two choices blank as I don't think I would want to do anything else!

Int Corps have no vacancies till 2010 so you might have to look for another choice mate

Oh right ok s.a.m.
there's so much choice that I actually had a tough time narrowing down!

to MSI how do you know which corps has vacancies and when for? I am being told to pass adsc and then they will tell me available dates

Oh, I didn't realise that. Thing is though, I've been told that the joining process can take about 6-9 months, so that would take me into 2010. I guess it may work out ok?

Referring to your post on my other thread, I phoned the Army up earlier and the person on the phone told me that the only job I could apply for to be an officer at my age is the logistics officer job, but if you're saying I would have to be in sandhurst by my 30th birthday I don't understand how they could advertise that job on the army website, or is there an other place that I can do officer training at?

CMT is about a 9 month wait,Dog trainer/vet tech are also a long wait as the Corps is small and the job is a popular choice.

Sorry mate all bad news

I hope I can manage to get into a corp that I have an interest in, if not I may
even try a different arm.
