According to this site, http://www.army.mod.uk/linkedfiles/atr/ ... gramme.pdf, you only get to go home once for 4 days during the regular army basic training.

Is that true?

yes

Yes mate I'm pretty sure it's true I think it's week 7 you get your long weekend, then you get another break at the end of training.

Damn that sounds tough. I'd get well homesick.

I did 8 weeks basic in the Navy and didn't get any time off. Quite a few people got homesick I must say.

If it's anything like us, we can go home most weekends. Set off on a Friday afternoon and have to be back by Monday morning (so usually a Sunday night thing). Also, you get 7 weeks of leave a year (2 for Christmas, 2 for Easter and 3 for summer) as well as UPT (unprogrammed time) where you may be able to take leave.

I don't know how duties in the Army work though so I'm sure they'll come in to play, as you'll be working some weekends...

My lad got a long weekend off after 6 weeks into basic (Artillery) as did his mate from school (Engineers.)

Might have changed now but don't hold your breath.

The difference in the both of them after such a seemingly short time was staggering!

So far in week 16 I have had 1 day off after parents day, 2 weeks off for Christmas and a long weekend this coming Easter. I think other holidays are summer etc. Train fare's paid for.

Most of the time it's up to you if you want to go home on weekends.
