Why are we using the military equipment of the Korean War?

Post by Kyznets Krasnovitch »

A tank is very impressive if you are stupid enough to attack it from the front. From the top and from the back it is about as useful as a WWI battle ship. Has no one heard of GPS postioning munitions with vehicle recognition ( from all angles ) and the ability for vertical dives and sharp/or curves of trajectory around the inpressive front to the vunerable rear.
All you need is a series of EM linked minature drones and a portable missile silo, and bang goes a section of very expensive tanks.
Still we make money out of selling them to third world tin pot dictators. Even now so called tank battles are settled from the air!

Hello there Kyznets Krasnovitch,

Not 100% sure what your point is here. Please elaborate :)

I should think it was rather obvious. Tanks cost a phenomenal amount and can be knocked out by a single taliban insurgent with the right equipment ( though I have 2 solutions for this ). When the technology reaches the level I have indicated and you have not 'removed' observation satellites or the much greater distance away GPS, and you have not found a way of tackling minature drones ( other than relying on atrocious Northern European weather ) then the future battle field will be a replay of German army verses Polish army.

A tank is still a useful bit of kit for dealing with many battlefield incidents as it gives mobile artillery right at the front line, also drone signals can be jammed. Still a lot of this depends on who you are fighting and the level of weapons they can bring to bear.

Playing too much CoD again. If only you (KK) were commanding operations in Afghanistan the war would be over and the Taliban destroyed.

Not sure from where you get your information KK.The last Korean War Battle Tank was the Marine M60 long before Chobham Armor and the other reactive armor in use today.

This had better not be"Klink Klank.I'm a Tank"In a different guise.

My point is none are in use today.May well be some old T-72's around and even a few T-80's but no armor from that era is still in use, even if you could get spares for it.

No, or at least, no to MBT's(Challenger II, Abram M1A2, Leopard 2A5, etc). They decided not to use them because they were reckoned to be "too aggressive"; potentially causing an increase to unnecessary destruction and civilian casualties. :shocked!: Also, I think the terrain may unfavourable.
