Oppo refers to your opposite number on the old guncrews.

In some parts of the navy they say a real oppo is someone who will go ashore, get 2 BJs, come back an board and give you one. :shocked!:

Shocking thing to say, but Julian and Sandy from Wardroom say it's true. :kissing:

I have no firsthand knowledge of such practices.

Fetch me another cabin boy Mr Mate, this one's split in half, Ahaaaar. :squarewink:

 sunman,You're Right 'Oppo' Opposite Number Relating to gun crews, and also watchkeepers, any of the old gunnery rates (if there are any left?) will also tell you that Gunnery Drill was all by Numbers, also 'Oppo' also relates to messing arrangements in the days of Wooden Walls when gun crews messed together alongside the Cannon's,No1 would be seated at the head of the mess table and opposite him would be No2 and so-forth.The crafy B******s at the head of the table would get the first helping and by the time it got down to the 'powder monkey'at the end of the mess hard luck.As the old GI would say, with a tray of teddy oggies load load load,In bake out rake,No 1 would report the gun ready, and the gunnery Officer would be searching for the box of matches?.Aye JR
