Oppo refers to your opposite number on the old guncrews.

In some parts of the navy they say a real oppo is someone who will go ashore, get 2 BJs, come back an board and give you one.

Shocking thing to say, but Julian and Sandy from Wardroom say it's true.

I have no firsthand knowledge of such practices.
