Single soldier deployment

Post by Thrithraing »

Hi all,

I'm about to go on deployment in October with a Regular Infantry unit to Afghanistan. I was just wondering, as this is my first Tour, if anyone has any particular tips on stuff to take with me.

I know a lot of guys that have taken laptops and stuff - but just about anything that will make life a little easier would be grand.

Bit of a random one, but I'm just trying to ask someone with experience!

Goldie,

Will the QM do a one-for-one? Or will I have to buy civvie?

I heard the Web-Tex ones are heavy when they get wet and leak everywhere.

Come on folks useful tips for the young man going on an experience of life at the front. What does he need to survive and stay comfortable in this backward land with backward people and their bibical ideas.I was in the Middle East back in the early sixties and water kept cool was a great thing for us.Real milk for our breakfast instead of the old carnation milk in your corn flakes which were full of weevils when the milk was put in.I will ask my young nephews who have served out there what they wanted most and will get back to you.Tam

There are a few members on this site who have had very recent operational experience in that neck of the woods) Paras and Marines). I would chip in, but they are far more current and relevant.

Hey guys,

Cheers for the replies. Now I think of it, it would have been a better idea to ask on the Paras/Royal forums. Oh well.

Real milk, you say? If we don't get that in Warminster, then I'm not holding out much hope for Sangin.

Girls are probably better looking though

Oh dear,

Cancel, cancel. Not Afghanistan - Iraq!
