Need contributors for documentary on Iraq

Post by dvazp »

I’m working on an Iraq tv documentary called ‘Iraq By Numbers’ for ITV presented by Rageh Omaar which will be shown on the 5th anniversary of the beginning of the war – March 17th. In case you don’t know who Rageh is, he was the BBC Baghdad correspondent during the war in 2003. Checkout some of his work here and here.

In this programme he’s looking at the human stories behind the ‘numbers’ and statistics generated by the war – and how the feelings of both civilians and servicemen and women have changed in the last 5 years. Rageh has just returned from Iraq and is now very keen to understand the views of British soldiers who have served there. We are particularly interested in people who were on active duty at the beginning of the war and who took part in the invasion of March 2003.

This is your chance to express your views, opinions and experiences to one of the UK’s most respected reporters. Anyone interested?

Rageh omar, :P what a farking dickhead.
Whoever let that cnut loose as a real journalst wants seeing off.

An absolute w4nker.
Er, no offence Raggy, just fork off back to playskool 8)
He`s not John Simpson, is he? And he never will be :P
Martin Bell anyone?

Raggy Omar, what a fecking joke

"Most respected reporters" you say? The man`s a farking idiot, he`s a joke :P
On a par with the other "most respected" W4nker, Clive "expert "Myaree

One does wonder how far Brit telly is willing to sink when it considers the likes of Raggeh and Myaree to be reporters on a par with, say, the Dimblebeys :-?

That's a bit harsh!

What's that assessment based on?

What's that assessment based on? :-?

My personal experience of watching them both talk shite about events they knew fark all about, in a manner which often suggests otherwise..

Tonight, Mathew, I want to be a top class BBC reporter
Well guess what?
Wanting is never enough. 99.99% need not apply.
And, sadly, that includes Raggers.

So far you haven't actually explained why you don't like him. All you've done is make it clear that you don't like him. If you were to present a view that made sense -rather than just a stream of abuse- perhaps I could take your views seriously.

So if there's anyone out there that doesn't have issues with Rageh Omar, or who would like to speak his mind to Rageh instead of just abusing him on a forum, please let me know.

I've seen TV documentaries that allow people to express their views, press interviews where your views will be respected etc etc. I, for one, have little or no confidence in the press and the media in general. Answers are often twisted and 'edited' to suit the reporters slant on issues. Before you say it doesn't happen, it does, I know, I've seen it. I'm not saying your man would do this but all reporters are after one thing, viewers and an award.
For me, it is a case of "I don't trust reporters"...

I totally understand, Sticky Blue. Me myself, I wouldn't be comfortable about signing one of those release forms.

But it depends a lot on who the director is and what the documentary's about. The presenter doesn't actually have much say in how the footage gets used because he's not even around while the editing is taking place. It's the director and the editor that do all that.

What I'll tell you, though, is that if someone came forward I'd talk to him straight up. I don't want to play games because if I betray people in the long term it's worse for me.

Look, I'm not pro-military. But through my work I've met people in the military that really opened my mind. And when I started reading a bit more I realised people in the military really need to be heard coz everyone's ignoring them.

This is why I posted on this forum. But, damn!, it's difficult to get anybody to talk openly. My attitude is: at least talk to me. People got so much to say and I'm saying come talk to me coz I want to listen to what you got to say. So talk to me. Then if you think I'm bullshitting tell me to f@#k off. But at least talk to me before you make up your mind.

Of course, the other problem is that serving people can't talk to the media or press. You might get someone who was there and now a civilian but nobody who was there and still serving will be allowed to without reams of paperwork.

I know. Believe me, I know. I've been trying to arrange for this through the MOD but trying to find anything out is very difficult. The press office would rather we just interviewed a bigshot whereas we want a normal, down-to-earth soldier.

But if I did find someone, I reckon I could clear it with the MOD quite quickly, coz now I have a bit of a relationship with some of them. Still, I would rather have someone that can speak freely without looking over his shoulder at an MOD press officer. But beggars can't be choosers, right?

Considering you're coming from the same IP as 'Daisy', do you also work for Folio?

Wow! I'm impressed! Teach me how to do that...

Actually, I sit right next to the Folio team, although Daisy's not here anymore. They've just told me they were doing some development for a documentary on British soldiers but never got the funding for it.

My view and opinion and experience of Raggers is that he has a level journalistic ability required to type adverts in Loot.

You say "one of the UK`s most respected reporters" and I say most respected by whom? Apart from you and raggers, obviously. :-?
I think he`s a fugging idiot mate. :P
