Sam Salt

Post by Paddysprat »

I have only just read that Rear-Admiral Sam Salt died on the 3rd December.

For those who are not aware. Rear-Admiral Salt was the Captain of HMS Sheffield during the Falklands war in 1982, when it was sunk by an Exocet missile with the loss of 20 crew members.

Those members of the ships company who died as a result were the first casualties of the Falklands war. The sinking of the ship is remembered by many as the first indication that British lives were indeed on the line.

From the books I have read on the Navys' part during the Falklands, Rear-Admiral Salt was held in high esteem by those who knew and served with him. His name is also one of those that has become synonymous with the history of the Falklands war.

I would like to pass on my sincere condolances to the Salt family.

RIP and never forgotten.
