I was awarded the crossed rifles in 1966 during basic training in the RAF. To qualify you had to fire 15 round at a target 50 yds away with the Lee Enfield 303 rifle. Five rounds standing five kneeling on one knee and five laying flat. If each five grouped together for an old penny to cover or touch, and if all three groups met that standard then you were awarded the marksman badge at the rifle range. I remember thinking wow ! Then oh no now I have to stitch it on. I still have my insignia which I removed when discharged. :2gunfire:
