Assault vest v webbing
No I'm not. I don't like short posts so I will continue.
It's probably my fault because I never introduced myself in the 'Introduce yourself' section.
I'm off to Uni this year, and will hopefully be joining the Paras as an officer after 3 years there. I've done the RCB Briefing and have Para POC and RCB Main Board this summer.
I am a Cdt. RSM in the CCF and so do have some authority speaking on matters concerning ACF/CCF etc.
Hope that clears things up,
Mike

sometimes it does get quite ridiculous with cdets taking it too seriously. i had this good friend who was absolutely fanatical over cadets. while everyone went out on weekends(to the park to drink cider as you do at 14-15) he was at home polishing his boots. Anyways he bagan to tell cadets to miss half an hour of lessons so as to be early for our friday evening parade, and when questioned about this by the CO he told him that it was me purely because i was the first name that came to his head and he didnt want to risk his rank. So I got demoted and he ran away all chuffed because he had less competition for the corporal spot. All turned out ok because i got my rank back and am now a Sgt while he remains a puny corporal and it is estimated weeks before he hangs himself for not being the senior rank
that pointless story is my contribution to this pointless argument. thankyou and have a good day.
ps. i just got promoted to casual member, WOHOO!

To answer your questions:
1. You won't be lieing on top of a Hexy Burner or whatever. An Assault Vest is simply designed to carry magazines, grenades, FFDs and waterbottles. Whereas your webbing will carry a vast assortment of goodies, as well as your ammunition.
2. Your Bergen sits atop your rear webbing pouches quite nicely. Doesn't work with a vest, because there are no pouches for it to sit on! Also, because your magazine pouches are sitting up on your abdomen, you will find that your PLCE belt clip will be stretched to the limit (even if you're a skinny f@#k like me), and will interfere with your magazine pouches.
3. PLCE Webbing is issued to cadets is it not? Therefore it is free. The only assault vests worth buying are the expensive ones, like Arktis, as the Webtex jobbies are a bit w@#k really.
4. I don't think the Cadets assault things that often, so you'd probably look like a bit of a w@#k
Hope that helps,
Andy
