the confusion is gone!

i was trying to figure out what military acronym it was, and what an ISTR might be! :o

in what capacity did you work with the HAC guys?

there certainly isnt much information to be found about the HAC anywhere?

I used to do light guns (A (Liverpool Irish) Troop, 208 Bty RA, hence the name), so did courses with their gun bunnies and went to Sandhurst with a couple of them. Nothing spectacular, I had a choice of the officer or the madly warrie route a while back.

Nice people.

HAC week-end

Post by Guest »

Hey guys,

thought i'd update you on my HAC experience.

A few weeks ago i went to the HAC assesment week-end so they could look at me and me at them, and i must say i was impressed, and they accepted me as well.

the week-end was a BPFA on the friday night, 2 mins push ups, and sit up then the BFT. then a trip down to their hut in Bisley near pirbright.

Sat was phyz in the am, then some command tasks (team tasks to figure out different probs etc) then a few basic army tests, an ammo box lift and a water carry??????? i guess they are minimal reqs to get in. we did a swim test, followed by some hardcore water polo! (lots of dunking and competitveness but much fun) we later had some interviews and then did the assult course, then we were showed the weapons systems used by the HAC and a covert OP and the sigs kits etc.

Sat evening was a formal dinner (a most amazing 7 course meal and drinks and a great laugh) then at 6 am on the sunday we did the bloody BPFA again.........surprisingly i improved my run time by just under 2 mins, i must in future do all phyz severly hung over!

on return to London, those selected to start the course were given the good news and had medicals, the rest asked to try again in 6 months, after being told where they fell short (most was fitness based)

I'm glad to say i made it and start in a few weeks, the DS were all great and the Patrol sqn guys were very helpful and some of the courses etc you can do once in are amazing, one guy had his commando flash, his para wings LRRP school in germany and numerous other courses under his belt, a few freefall guys etc etc

anyone thinks this may be for them, pm me or go alone on the first tue of the month to thier presentation evening. you wont regret it.

Yes mate its only in London, they are based out of Finsbury Barracks in the city, and yes they are TA, they have a reg counterpart 4/73.

What is strange is that when mobilised the regs fall under the command of the HAC, to the regs will work for the HAC, it is the only ARRC (Allied Rapid Reaction Corps) STA sqn.

here is a link with some info

http://www.reserve-forces-london.org.uk ... efault.htm

as for phase one training, you can either do their basic recruits course (6 months long) 1 w/e a month then go on to the Patrol selection course (another 6 months) or if you are already a trained soldier you can go direct entry to the PSC course and skip recruits, look at the link for better info or PM me with specifics i'd be glad to help if i can.#

Having been in the Regiment since the 80s and also in the Squadrons, you are all sort of correct in various ways

Basic and Selection training takes over a year combined, no we dont buy our own weapons etc. There have been attempts on several occasions to close the Regiment but the specialist role has always been the deciding factor in keeping us.

As for where the permanent staff come from well that would be telling, you might well just have to go on selction to find that one out ....... lol
