Regimental Colours that are laid up

Post by kenericm »

My question concerns laid up Regimental Colours. What are the rules and regulations concerning laid up Colours? I ask with reference to a certain regiment that has it's colours laid up but the latest one has been moved to a local museum. I want to know if this is allowed? Normally once colours are laid up they remain there for eternity or until recalled into service. Can anyone point me in the direction of the rules and regulations concerning such things.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Normally they are laid up in a Church, usually the garrison church where the Regiment based, if there was local Cathedral then they would wind up there. There some in St Pauls in London that are over 200 years old
