You don't really need them for the type of trainng you do, plus your routines (diet, types and intensities of fitness, and personal admin times) just don't allow the kind of consistency that you need to get real benefits from supplements.
Rules vary at different training units/battalions, for example at Lympstone there is a block ban on them, whereas at Catterick I don't think they are officially banned.

What kind of supplements are you using, and what kind of training are you currently doing?

There was a time when no one ever heard of supplements yet they all passed the tests and humped huge loads all over the place. As far as I can see the only benefit of supplements is to the people that make it and sell it at an inflated price

I've recently been told not to even think about taking any, as they're completely banned now, after all your not going to be able to pop yourself a Milkshake while out in Afghanistan so you shouldn't be doing the same during training.

Well observed Millar.
They can be very effective in the right training situations, where you have control over a lot of the variables.

Creatine is banned from catterick it dehydrates you. A lad died from dehydration a few years ago and its been banned since. A few lad were taking protein and recovery supplement when I was there and nothing was said.

No one has died from taking Creatine, don't be silly.

Although someone dying of dehydration during basic training is a dit that goes around, I heard the same dit when I was at Lympstone. It probably happened once and became a scare story.

creatine is most probably banned because it hides pain and muscle fatigue, leading to avoidable injurys. ive seen people down the gym do them self a right mischief on the stuff because they have pushed it to hard. supplements are no match for a decent diet, rest and ol fashioned grit
