I know it's not a mistake, but every time I see their name in text I simply have to say "shurely shome mishtake" Visions of a real pegasus with a howitzer on its back slowly drifting to earth beneath the silk.

Surely the most incongruous unit name in the whole armed forces

Parachute and horse and artillery...hhhmmm...interesting combination in 2008

With the way things are going, you never know. :P Horses were used to increase mobility, it's called tradition mate.

I should have done all that in my best Sean Connery accent. :D

If we dont have the upper hand after 16th Air Assault and 3CDO Brigade have done there jobs then it looks like where f@#k, what else has the Goverment got to offer! Britains best troops back to back again, must of give Terry awake up call the first time, second time round they must be shitting it! Shame 40 CDO wont be making up the whole brigade as there out there at the minute.

After cutting para jumps, few stables might be getting calls to nationalise there horseys and ship them off to afghan! Brownes Britain!

Visions of MoD operatives raiding the armoury at the Tower of London in the dead of night and then sneaking away with hand-barrows laden with the old armour plating for horses! :D "...and 'ere Fred lets half-inch one of 'enrys swords while we're 'ere that'll make a bundle on e-bay"

Does anyone remeber a photo of a bunch of yank SF lads doing the rounds at the commencement of land action in Afganistan. It was a bunch of US lads armed to the teeth with all the gizmos attached onto their rifles, kited with their usual oakleys and wild beards, moseying around on horses. One SF lad even donned a cowboy hat. It was pure wild west stuff, too funny for words.

They must have passed this course: http://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/army/fm3-05-213.pdf

That said not a bad mode of transport apart from the fact that if you get into contact they'll do a legger on you. Minimises chances of minestrike though. Hope MOD don't read this or they'll cancel all the armament upgrade projects and buy knacker yard mules and issue them instead.

We were always glad to have a troop attached to us (if my memory serves me right it was G Mercer's Troop) and they all jumped as did all attached arms, 9 Sqd RE's, 216 Sigs, 63 Coy RASC, Guards Ind Coy.(sorry if I have left any out).
Some of the cooks didn't jump because they couldn't get a hay box into their container, but I have to admit the horses didn't jump, can you imagine one of them farting inside an aircraft. :)
