Would you like to work in a varied role covering the full project lifecycle? We currently have a vacancy for a Lead Engineer – Data Links at our site in Yeovil, Somerset.



As a Lead Engineer – Data Links, you will be responsible for the specification design and implementation of the Tactical Data Link (TDL) products and services to UK and export military customers. You will look after the technical product roadmap, ensuring the team adherence to the engineering processes and strategies and supporting the project management team in engineering estimates and issues resolution.

You will become the Technical Authority (TA) for the area and will be responsible for ensuring the Engineering Processes and practices are adhered too.

Your main responsibilities as a Lead Engineer – Data Links will involve:

Ensuring that the design of systems/ subsystems of products are safe

Guaranteeing the quality and fitness for purpose of aspects of product designs with appropriate trade-off between operational performance, affordability and product

Supporting the product safety subject matter expert (SME) in carrying out the product safety engineering tasks required to support the design authorities for multiple projects

Overseeing the activities of engineering staff to ensure product certification and release at the required standard

Confirming that records of all design and technical decisions are retained including a record of the relevant Technical Authorities involved

Ensuring appropriately tailored application of Corporate, MAI, Line of Business and Discipline policies and standard processes

Identifying strategic technology and process development needs of projects

Supporting the wider MAI Engineering community through involvement in developing policy and standardised processes, thus sharing good practice.

Backing LCM Design Review and Technical Bid Reviews as appropriate

Your skills and qualifications as a Lead Engineer – Data Links :

Strong knowledge of Tactical Data Links in particular Link 11 and 16

This shall encompass both the physical and operational aspects of the data links and the CAA mandates on data link usage in civilian airspace

Detailed knowledge of the NATO and US Tactical Data Link standards i.e. Mil Standard 5511, 16 and 22 and 6016C/D etc.

Strong understanding of the development lifecycle for software from design through to delivery

Experience with the development of product and product based programme deliverables

Experience of mentoring junior staff and leading sizeable teams

Awareness of software development processes and development tools for example code editors, source code control and defect reporting systems
