Books about leadership

Post by Dangermouse »

Anyone got any recommendations for books about leadership, whether biographical, sports related, psychology, military leadership, etc, etc. Anything would be helpful.

Cheers

Not specifically about leadership but Clive Woodwards' autobiography 'Winning' is excellent. It may not teach you how to be a leader but will give you in an insight into how he operates as a successful manager.

The man was/is a very successful businessman as well as being a great rugby coach and his main strength was managing people effectively.

Being a good leader is about confidence, having the confidence to make a decision and follow it through. Paul McKenna has a book called 'Confidence' which I am reliably informed is very good (it has been sitting in my bookcase for the last year, must get round to reading it someday).
Aways look on the bright side of life.

I would highly recommend:

1. The 7 habits of highly effective people, by Stephen R Covey
(Covers management and leadership, and other related topics)

2. Gung Ho! , by Kenneth H. Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles
(Very useful and practical, in the form of a short story)

I've used things I've learned from both of these in day-to-day life.

I'd recommend 'The Three Meter Zone-Common Sense Leadership for NCOs' by Command Sergeant Major J.C. Pendry.

It's an excellent book full of good advice, though since it's tailored for US Army use, some of it is a bit redundant for us.

Well worth a look though.
