Anybody read this? Just finished it and it's a very good read. Asher (Ex-SAS) re-traces the foot-steps of the Brazo Two Zero patrol and sheds light on the inaccuracies of Andy McNab and Chris Ryan's literature.

This has been debated before and if youve ever been in a situation like that you will soon realise that Mcnob was stretching the truth ..same as Ryan and others who write books re-sas stories i have at least five versions of that tale from soldiers who were involved ...Money.. is the key here ...lots of it too....................

Joe Blogs doesn't give a monkeys about a tad of truth bending.

When they buy that novel(not sure I'd call them literature!) or rent that film, they want entertainment and a good read. They don't want to hear Mcnab punched a guard and then legged it. Hey want to hear how after hand to hand combat, he drew a knife across his throat and drop him undetected.

It's only the connoisseur who's concerned over the details(or the Mod!)

Yeah, it starred Sean Bean. I first watched it When I was very young and I enjoyed it. I've since then read the Asher book. Must say I prefere the book but the film is still very "entertaining" in it's own rite.

Very true Terryrat, including Michael Asher's version.

I find it difficult to understand how people who were not intimately connected to an event, can judge whose version is the most accurate.

If you have seen the documentary retracing 20's footsteps I think you can soon see where the truth lies. One of the NZ guys on the patrol wrote his story (Cant remember the book title) also covering the events and funnilly enough his closely remembers the documentary.

To then lay blame on those who didn't survive speaks volumes for the writer. Then wonder why he is no longer allowed back to Hereford?

I've also read the books.... And no, of course I wasn't there.

But when you have one version of an incident were 8 men take on 200 and win!... but another where 8 men ran off from 2 farmers and a kid..... the truth has got to be somewhere in between.

As for anyone being allowed back to Heeford? can any ex SAS soldier return if he publicly writes about the Regiment and it's missions?

Anything written involving the mod, has to go through a screening proccess anyway, so there would be nothing published that they hadn't allowed, if there was, the writer would be prosecuted and therefore, the answer would be no.
