The Utility of Force

Post by Leigh Dowell »

Anyone interested in recent military history and the future of military planning should read this book.
It is a treatise by Gen Sir Rupert Smith on how industrialised warfare was started by Napoleon and continued through to the end of WW2 when with the dropping of the A bomb it effectively became obsolete yet governments and armed forces still try to frame all modern conflicts in the industrial paradigm.
It sounds heavier than it is and the guy really knows his stuff, he's no armchair warrior.
It's currently in hardback by penguin(Allen Lane)
Whilst I may disagree with what you say, I will fight to the death for your right to say it.
