Frozen Pensions

Post by Mutley »

Under the old format I raised a query re Frozen Pensions on emigrating. I had obviously got the wrong end of the stick, but was at least partially right.

Now a group of expats are getting together to use the new human rights bill to sue the government for loss of OLD AGE pensions which, depending on which country you choose, can be frozen at the rate payable on the date of departure. Even read of someone who continued to pay NI contributions to ensure continance of OA pension and still found it frozen when it was time for the government to cough up......

I for one wish them well. Like it or not we live in the global village now (government speak not mine). So why should we penalise those who seek a better life in a country that was once on some list 50 years ago!

Mutley not only do they freeze our uk pensions they reduce them first. I used to get 180pds, :agrue: when we came to Oz it was reduced to 118pds 80p. There are pension groups in Canada, South Africa And Aus trying to fight this. The Australian government is now giving the group here financial assistance to fight which is good. If we had gone to live in Germany or USA it would be indexed yet it was the Aussies who went and gave their lives in 2 World Wars and we are penalised for living here. Meanwhile any "refugee" can get assistance as soon as he lands in uk and he has nothing to do with the UK. At least we were born there and Pete spent 25yrs in the RAF but we are penalised by the DSS or whatever it is called now.
May the sun always shine on you.

Well Aileen, you made the choice :)
You could always come here and live in the land of sunshine.
