Jim, unfortunately you live in the wrong country. My father in law, a Newfoundlander, joined the RN in 1939, HO. He remained in Britain after the war. In 1949 when Newfoundland joined the Canadian Confederation, he and his family obtained dual citizenship. Like all other WW2 ex servicemen, he got nothing whilst in the UK. On his return to Canada in the 1970's, he was immediately accepted by Veterans Affairs Canada. He has all of his medications paid for, a monthly house keeping allowance, plus many other benefits.

You will probably remember the political statement made in Britain just after WW2. "A land fit for heroes". Does that ring a bell?

Aye - Andy. :o
