Yeah, only differences are checking the change lever every time you check the safety (on the rear LHS), the gas stoppage, and the forward assist (give the cocking handle a whack to make sure the bolt is fully forward). Did you not have an LSW in cadets (we did until Iraq started and they took it off us, tossers!! Let us keep the SUSAT tho', which conveniently found it's way onto my rifle for ex - advantages of playing armourer!!).
Drill don't know, we always did it with the GPs.

Stoppage drills and NSP's help...!!!
Game Plan:
Weapons specialist in Royal Marines (Assualt Engineer, Small Arms etc)
Question?
Do you think after being in the RM with these specialisations I could train people, such as bodyguards in the United States, or train special forces etc in the US as well?

Re: Stoppage drills and NSP's help...!!!
im no expert but i am a member of the ACF myself. looking upon the l85 and the l98 the only difference i notice is the handguard. all the actions like NSP and Stoppage Drills are the same we can tell this as all the main actions, like reloading the weapon are done on the MMH (where the hammer and trigger mechanism is) not on the handguard. The LSW (l86A2) has the same stoppage drills and nsp, so the fact that the L85 is automatic does not make a difference. the only difference in the l98 and L85 would be that stripping the weapon. the gas cylinder, gas plug and gas tube are located in the handguard so stripping the weapons a little bit different when you get to stripping the main body. i hope this post helps you
