Life in the Royal Marines

Post by JDC »

Hello,

Out of curiosity, how good do ex and/or serving marines believe their personal life is/was? I realise that to be a Commando one must be prepared to work irregular hours, go on operations etc. but is the leave good enough - good enough to spend time with famy that is. Also, for marines in relationships: do you feel as though you see your partner enough? Is it hard to be away from them? Do they think that you spend enough time together? And, for marines not currently in relationships: do you ever worry about finding the time to actually start one? Do such things even cross your minds?

I have a girl and have been in a couple years now, it can definitely be tough sometimes. It's harder for them than it is for us. Leave will depend on what unit you get posted to and what is happening in the world obvisouly. But personally Ive had lots of leave and long weekends etc, plenty of time spent at home.
