JR,

A pint of the strongest rum?!!? Ah, happy days. I was on my divers' course in HMS Sembawang - or was it Terror (?) - doh! Memory's going in parts - we had mismusters for Rum in the guard room (Neaters!!). I can only drink Wood's 100% ever since! 8)

It was just before that sad day on 31st July 1970 when the Rum Ration was consigned to history.

Timex, where did you get that 41 'display' from?

Was the Sardinia thing when we exercised there ( and Corsica?) in the 70s? I was attached to the Ities. The only advantage being they got a small bottle (150cl?) of brandy in their 24 hr ration packs. The only soldiers I'd have no problem going to war against?!

Where was I when I was with the French Foreign Legion and had wine?

Grand Harbour looks to be a very lonely place, glad that I have my memories of how it was in the 40s and 50s,when we had a Royal Navy, and the Med.Fleet alone was larger ,and more powerful, than the present,emasculated,set-up.
