The worst four hour watch at Eastney, was the drill shed area, the hours from 23.59-04.00 was made pure hell, by the chiming of that fcuking clock, every quarter hour made the night last forever. :D :D.I never stayed long at Eastney,my skills were in constant demand overseas, but I always drifted back after a while in order to entertain the Queen Street girls. :P :P :P

The previous watch was only made bearable at weekends when the Stripey's Mess had a Do on and bored ladies would step out for some fresh air! LWB Land Rovers did have their uses.

'Black is Black I want my baby back' was top of the charts I seem to remember.

And on the Sea Gate post I was "resting" with my back end on a plank on the side of the box ( roughly a half inch wide) with my feet on the other side in a sort of cramped 'W' position, as one did - when two young officers came by from ashore, slightly under the weather...

Once they'd gone by I extracted myself from the box and challenged -

Halt ! Who goes there ?

The poor souls had heart attacks, jumped high and upon landing in an embarrassed state bollocked me - couldn't really do me any damage though could they - t'was my job -
stealth is good - innit ?

I stayed awake after that, smiling well and broadly...
and yes, listening to the quarter hour chiming

I'm sorry but a lot of the reminisicing here is not only avoiding the real reason why this site "died" so to speak but also one of the causes of it. It became more about the retired NCO's here still trying to assert dominance over potential recruits and enjoying their own little clique and answering questions (for eg) about becoming snipers with "helpful" answers such as "become a para/marine first".

Ego's were developed and in the end, woe betide anyone foolish enough to ask about pressups etc. I am sorry but the training and joining sections were the lifeblood of the forum.

PRMC.co.uk then popped up, and the place is booming.

Ah ... love you for that ! There are so many upside down chevrons on here :-)

Grand input - and good points.

But I still don't know many stripeys or sergeant majors on this forum. We are still very much lower deck :-)

I note that you became dissilusioned with the site after only a few posts - sad - and from 2005 too. Can't agree with you on the training threads. The major posts were on the Bunker and Marines pages. You will have read the remarks on the jerk off who instigated the demise of this forum... He rang up at least one of our members regularly at two a.m. to harrass the man and his wife! (Invalids both. Not the element anyone looks for in a forum of friends...

As long as we have a "Talk to a Listener" post at least I willl be here.

I imagine that you are in on OAMAAM etc and not just the training side...

Anyway - your contributions here are welcome....

That is despicable; couldn't anything have been done? Was anything done? Who was it?

General Notice -

Not going to expand that - those who have a need to know already know .... and observe.

Obviously someone with a problem, damaged ego, thwarted career, or just plain pond life from the very beginning of his serving time who is unable to understand the role of monitors and believes that "Everyone is out to put them down".

Also known for re-inventing himself and using several pseudos/callsigns.

Help this forum by contributing.

Your honest, non bullying, input can help many... To educate themselves, to enjoy their service or their retirement or to massage their need for contact.

All input these days is regarded as good input.

A few of us monitor and try to keep a good, friendly tone. The rest is up to you who are fortunate enough to be able to control your venom and who are not disbarred because of bad or abusive behaviour. :P

popped my head in for a quick heads up and expected to see this thread way way down the line and into oblivion but bloody hell, its hardly moved.

yep i am guilty of jumping ship ( mixture of draft back to uk and divorce) but i have to say im saddened by the demise of what was such ( and could be again) a great site, the banter was brilliant and it was fullfilling to see many a forum user come back on after they had earned there lid and a simple thank you was enough to keep us going. But then we also had the trolls who were only here to cause trouble and they only 'visited' here to try and poach for there site which was less stringent on rules and mannors. This in turn led to quiter ship and people got fed up. maybe i and a few of the old and bold should perhaps come back and try to give this an overhaul and try get some life back into things.
