http://civviestreet.proboards19.com/ind ... read=1318640 Commando held their medals parade today, but members of the RMR who fought alongside them in Afghanistan for the last 7 months were not included in the parade.
They were told that the reason for them not being included was that markers had already been placed and adding more men would make the spacing between the companies incorrect.
Many of these men and their families had travelled long distances and taken time off work to attend and had not been told beforehand they were not included.
This has left a pretty sour taste for those families who gave 12 months of their lives to 40 Commando. I am astonished that the powers that be thought it was more important for everyone to stand in nicely regimented lines for the sake of the local news cameras and a navel officer than for 30 guys who risked their lives to be appropriately recognised and not have their medals 'pushed at them over a table' .

Sisyphus,
Reading the whole thread, there are various opinions as to what actually happened. But, as you say, no matter what the truth, the perspective is that we screwed up big time.
I was in the RMR myself for a short while, and served alongside many RMR attached ranks during various tours. Some used the 'Triple S' system to transfer into the regulars and had long and distinguished careers. Some were good and some were not so good, but they were all Royal Marines.

Haven`t had anything about this down here. Mick Plater`s post suggests it wasn`t all bad, though Rogue. I bet the lads(Reg and RMR) were not best pleased

Shame as them lads did what was expected and required of them and deserved them medals.
anyone know how they got them presented in the end?
