Experience before joing the Royal Corps??
I dare say the variety of work experience would cover a multitude of trades, menial or otherwise .
Owdun like myself had a good secure job with a guarantee of full time work providing of course we didn't go off the Rails (Pun).
Prior to joining I worked for the L.M.S railways on the footplate of a goods yard shunting engine shoveling coal into the fire box (fireman) hard work feeding and stoking a boiler, and before the nanny state came into being we had to look to our own devices regarding safety at work ect!.
Breakfast,a couple of rashers of bacon/egg placed on a clean shovel and into the fire box would not be tolerated in this day and age .
So what made us join the exalted ranks of the Royal Marines,I can only guess 'the spirit of adventure' and a sense of belonging.
No PRMC in those days, just get in get it done and on completion orf to the Brigade

Paper round
Car washing
Washing cars
Cleaner (of cars)
Polisher (of cars)
God, it was boring... 15 years old and from my Sunday paper round straight to the garage over the road and wash cars. The Mrs wonders why I take ours to the jet wash, I'll tell her one day!

0400 start, working with Shire horses, hauling gear from the railway goods yard, up Livery St. in Brum. hooking on extra pairs for the final haul, great job, shite pay, though pay not as shite as her Majesties pittance to R.M.recruits. No pre training required for Jim and I, we walked miles to work, and then a full eight or nine hours hard graft, fit as a butchers dog.
Aye Owdun.
Aye Owdun.
Ive worked as,
Pappppperr boiiiiiiiiiii.
Hospital cleaner unitl dismissed for swimming in hospital pool, and going down stairs in wheel chairs.
and have been unemployed ever since.
Apart from these i also like to shout out of my window "Pappppeerr Booiiiii" when the current paper boy is delivering the newspaper in the morning, then i go back to bed.

Royal Marines Recruit (6 Months)
Though apparently this amounts to nothing in the eyes of certain employment agencies.
All I want is some money to spend on nonsense while I wait for the NHS to tell me what's actually wrong with my back and give me a timescale so I can get back to eating a fine Dutchies at 0200.
