Anybody can now apply for SBS, rules changed a few yrs ago when everyone came under a single Command. (SAS, SBS and SRR)

The Royal Marines in SBS are still RM and as such come under RM dress regs, however they now have a different capbadge. Not sure if they wear the Globe and Laurel if they go back to the Corps.

On the 18th November 2003 the Royal Marines Special Boat Service passed into history.

On that day the SBS became part of the now tri-service United Kingdom Special Forces. Comprising the SBS,SAS and the SRR.
Tri-service, as members from any branch of the UK armed forces could volunteer for that units selection course.

As a 'new' unit under a Royal Warrant the SBS had a new cap badge, lanyard, stable belt etc.
Royal Marines within the SBS retained their Lovats and Green Berets and in fact still attended the Junior and Senior Command Courses at CTC.

Should they leave the Special Forces and return to their parent unit, in this case the Royal Marines then they would wear the RM cap badge.

Initial selection after the briefing course, is run jointly by the SBS/SAS.
Upon attaining the level required to be 'badged' for the SAS those wishing to join the SBS have a few more months of selection to attain the standards required for the SBS.
