RAF/RA(Aux)F Medal naming??

Post by big jar of wasps »

Hi,
Can anyone tell me why RAF medals are simpley named as RAF, unlike the army which names the Regiment or Unit served in?

Also are RAF (AUX) medals named such or are they just named RAF?

BJOW :-?

With all the respect in the world, why would an RAF medal have anything other than RAF on it? I mean you can't exactly put ' Weapons Systems Operator, RAF Lossiemouth, Cpl M Stevenson, J8406891 RAF' around the base.

The same way as a pongo won't have 'Mortar Platoon' or alike on theirs.
