Re: II Squadron Royal Air Force Regiment
Hello HMK, I'd also be interested to know what the current pre-para course is like simply becasue I haven't kept in touch with anyone form my days at Hullavington. When I did my pre-para course in early 82 it was a very informal affair with the adjutant saying things like "right today you'll go on a 6 mile run" on a regualr basis or dry jumping from the balloon. Happy days!HMK wrote:This is the Squadron I would like to join if I pass my PGAC and obviously my TG course. However i'm sure I will be asked about it if I say this in my interview. I have searched high and low but I can't find out any information on the Pre Parachute course you must complete before joining. I'm pretty sure it's not like the one the Para's have to do, but could be wrong.
Any information would be most appreciated
I left the Regt after the Falklands to seek luck & fortune elsewhere!
I truly miss Hullavington.

Yes, actually. As soon as I left the Regt I applied for the Metropolitan Police & while I was waiting for a place at Hendon Training College I spent a year doing various security jobs. The most interesting of which was protecting the Iranians, who having, a couple of years earlier, been bombed out of their Embassy by some chaps from Hereford set up shop in a building in Tothill Street right next door to New Scotland Yard, I mean literally there was a gap between the two buildings,a small side street of only about 15 feet wide. Now the bottom four floors of this building housed various Iranian oil companies but above that were located the Iranian army, navy and air force authorities. Our job was to search and check under vehicles entering the car park and to check people coming in and do random searches. And more than once I remember stopping their military instructors coming in with cut-away models of M16s and the like. This building could be monitored from NSY very easily and although I don't know it for a fact, I'd put money on that the Home Office picked this location specifically for the Iranians so they could keep a very very close eye on them. The other guys working with me on this job were all also ex-military or ex-police.HMK wrote:You found any luck or forunes then London Boy?
Then in 83 I went into the Met Police and did 13 years. Then in 96 I moved to Sweden. Over here I work for an agency of the Swedish MoD.
So yea, I've been lucky and found adventure and a Swedish wife, can't say I've made much money at anything though!
Sounds pretty good to me! Good to see that there is a life after the Regiment too. Not that I'm looking that far ahead, bloody hell, not even done my PGAC yet! lol
Swedish wife also sounds like a massive bonus!
Was it easier to get jobs like the police and security becasue of your background in the RAF?

Oh yes, you bet it was. I left school at the end of the 5th year- with very few qualifications - then went into the RAF when I was 18, having already passed the entrance exam for the Met police. Butr when I then went back for an interview my RAF service was a huge positive factor.HMK wrote: Was it easier to get jobs like the police and security becasue of your background in the RAF?
However, I got my current job, which I started in 97, because of my police experience and knowledge.

Yoteberg
Swedish Ostindiaman Yoteberg was down these parts last year.
I was fortunate enough to go aboard.
Not fortunate enough to shag any of her female crew, however

Ah Hullavington, good days, good times. I was there in 87 with 15 Squadron, we got on really well with the lads on 2, some of which were absolute nutters! A lot of the lads who were posted from 2 came to 15, so although they were posted to a different Sqn, they were still at Hullavington and the good old Chippenham area, ah the Rose and Crown, many beers.. Gold Diggers, drunken memories.
