I can fill you in on some basic info which no doubt someone else could elaborate on.
4PARA is the TA Unit. 2 and 3 PARA are the regular Units, I believe both are based in Colchester. 1 PARA form part of the Special Forces Support Group. I don't believe there is any difference between 2 and 3 PARA, besides perhaps the size of each Battalion.
Hope this fills in some of the blanks for you mate!
Ben.

The Parachute Regiment is organised like most other regiments. That is to say, it is compromised of battalions which themselves are composed of companies, and they of platoons, etc. You may want to check these links:milleredgeside wrote:Im just wondering about the different battalions in para? i dont get like about 1para and 3 para and that, could someone please just explain it to me? thanks alot

Para Reg has four battalions - numbered 1 through to 4 (note that often regiments and battalions may have what could be considered unusual numbering, but this is often down to historical reasons).
Hope this helps,

You can request to go to a particular Battalion towards the end of your training, but they'll generally just post you where you're needed. However, as mentioned before, a close relation can 'claim' you, as I claimed my brother in 1993 to 1 Para.

I think they work a lot with the Paras but strictly speaking aren't Para Reg.
Maybe?

Well when I was talking to a Para recruiter he said 2 para does'nt need any more soldiers so anyone will be posted to 3 Para by default, obviously he was wrong.Sandy The Guvnor wrote:Tom163 wrote:You don't get to choose! , I'm 90% sure you will be going to 3 Para. Unless you want to go TA then it will be 4 Para.
and what makes you say that
