Women wearing the maroon beret!!!

Post by Grimey Vibes »

I just seen a picture of a woman wearing the Paras beret. She did not have the cap badge, but had the exclusive piece of head gear. How did she get one of these then???
It was a pic of a bunch of paras and soldiers (2 were women) with berets on but not the capbadge with Tony Blair.

The regiment I'm going for, Royal Artillery, allows gunners to opt for para training, they have to do P company and the jump course. They then earn the maroon beret, but wear with their own cap badge. They are then attatched to a Para battalion, providing Artillery support. REME and RE can do similar courses. Women aren't allowed to opt for para training in RA, but they might be able to in REME or RE.

The last time I was down at Dover [1 Para] there were a couple of girls doing office work. They had all the para gear except for the wings, and it is those wings that sort out the men from the boys.

we have a unit in aldershot called "para provost" and even they wear the maroon beret, as is the norm they have completed the all arms course first and although im not knocking them for what they have achieved by becoming para provost they are looked down at somewhat by the old and bold of the royal military police who think that we should never wear any colour but red on our heads, myself i was happy in my air con police car and not in a hole in the ground but hey, it takes all sorts

the woman wearing the berets is a 16 AA bde thing every member of the brigade wears the maroon beret. We have a female medic in our unit and although she can't finish a four mile tab wears a maroon beret because technically she is serving with an airborne unit.
