Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) is seeking individuals with a broad base of engineering skills, knowledge and experience to fill a number of posts within Land Equipment and Weapons Operating Centres.

Operating from a headquarters in Bristol and from other locations in the UK and overseas, DE&S employs approximately 12,300 people to deliver an equipment programme of approximately £164Bn over the next ten years.

Land Equipment and Weapons Operating Centres are looking for people with the necessary skill sets and background to perform the following roles:

• Project Engineers
• In-Service Engineers
• Functional Specialist Engineers (Developing expertise in specialisations such as Safety, System Engineering, Explosive and Chemical engineering)

Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience of working in a complex project environment as an “Intelligent Customer” and display evidence of dealing with customers/clients to resolve complex issues; Eyes on as opposed to hands on.

LAND EQUIPMENT OPERATING CENTRE

Post holders will be team members supporting a host of land based systems and platforms, many of which are being currently utilised on operations. Successful candidates will be working alongside military personnel and industrial partners on projects at the very cutting edge of technology and science.

Typical activities will include:
• Assisting with the procurement and support of complex technical Land systems and platforms
• Advising and assisting military customers during the decision-making process
• Supporting team colleagues responsible for the development of the technical aspects for procurement contracts, intelligent customer reviews and platform certification
• Supporting in-service for engineering activities including acceptance and maintenance of support arrangements
• Researching and assisting with the drafting of technical requirements and risk statements
• Assist in reviewing contractors’ designs, plans and programmes
• Working with colleagues to understand interactions with related systems and programmes
• Making arrangements for the acceptance of equipment into service
• Monitoring performance of support arrangements.

WEAPONS OPERATING CENTRE (WOC)

The WOC is responsible for Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (WOME) across all services and post holders will be team members supporting projects for land, maritime and air based systems and platforms. Some specialist posts will also lead on safety and developments in science and technology for the next generation of WOME. Successful candidates will work alongside military personnel and industrial partners on systems and equipments that cover the entire project lifecycle.

Typical activities will include:
• Assisting with the procurement and support of complex Weapons systems
• Advising and assisting military customers during the decision-making process
• Providing evidence and assurance that equipments and systems are demonstrably safe and suitable for service
• Supporting team colleagues responsible for the development of the technical aspects for procurement contracts
• Supporting in-service engineering activities including acceptance and maintenance of support arrangements
• Researching and assisting with the drafting of technical requirements and risk statements
• Providing authoritative advice and guidance to DE&S wide projects on safety and suitability of explosive solutions
• Leading on Science and Technology developments’ for WOME systems
• Assist in reviewing contractors’ designs, plans and programmes as “intelligent customers”
• Working with colleagues to understand interactions with related systems and programmes
• Making arrangements for the acceptance of equipment into service

Grade Entry Qualifications

Band C1: Ideally candidates will be fully registered as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or higher with the Engineering Council. Candidates who show ability to achieve full registration within 12 months of appointment will be considered.
Band C2: Ideally candidates will be fully registered as an Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) or higher with the Engineering Council. Candidates who show ability to achieve full registration within 12 months of appointment will be considered.
